01 立春
立春(Start of Spring)在中国农历中表示春天的开始.
立春之后,白天变得更长,天气也愈发温暖:万物开始复苏,大地充满生机.
人们常说"一年之计在于春",农民在这个时节开始播种,为全年的丰收打下基础.
中国人早在三千年前就已开始在立春这一天举行庆祝活动.数百年来,迎春一直是民间的重要习俗.在春暖花开的日子里,人们常常外出玩,欣赏春天的美景.
Start of Spring marks the beginning of spring in the Chinese lunar calendar.
After the Start of Spring, the days get longer and the weather gets warmer:
Everything starts to recover and the earth is full of life.

Farmers start planting seeds at this time

02 立秋
在中国农历中,立秋(Start of Autumn)意味着夏天的结束和秋天的开始.
立秋带来的首先是天气的变化,气温逐渐下降.人们看到树叶开始变黄飘落时,知道秋天已经来临.
这就是所谓的“一叶知秋".但此时酷热的天气并未完全结束,高温通常还会持续一段时间,被称为“秋老虎".
立秋对农民意义重大,这时各种秋季作物迅速生长、开始成熟,收获的季节即将到来.
In the Chinese lunar calendar,
Start of Autumn means the end of summer and the beginning of autumn.
After Start of Autumn, the weather firstly starts to change,
and the temperature gradually decreases.
The sight of leaves are turning yellow and falling reminds people that autumn has arrived,
which is the literal sense of the idiom that the falling
of one leaf indicates the autumn.
However, during this period, the heat doesn’t entirely end,
and it usually lasts a spell, which is called "Autumn Tiger".
Start of Autumn is of great significance to farmers.
It is at this time that various autumn crops grow rapidly
and begin to mature, and the harvest is approaching.
03 冬至
冬至(Winter Solstice)是全年白昼最短、黑夜最长的一天,标志着一年中最寒冷时节的开始.
冬至过后,气温越来越低,人们的户外活动逐渐减少.农民地里活儿不多,主要忙于灌溉系统的维护和农作物的防冻,同时为来年春天播种做准备.
中国人历来很重视冬至,许多地方都把冬至当作一个节日,庆祝方式各地不尽相同.北方人有冬至吃饺子(jiaozi)的习俗,南方人有冬至吃汤圆(tangyuan)的传统.
The Winter Solstice, the shortest day and longest night of a year,
marks the beginning of the coldest period of a year.
After the Winter Solstice, with the lower temperature,
people will have less outdoor activities.
Since there is much less farming work to do,
farmers are mainly busy for maintaining irrigation systems
and protecting crops from being frozen,
and in the meantime, make preparations for spring sowing in the following year.
Chinese people have always attached great importance to the Winter Solstice.
In many places, people regard it as a festival and celebrate it in different ways.
People in Northern China have the custom of eating jiaozi on this day,
while people in Southern China have the tradition of eating tangyuan.

拔苗助长
从前有个农夫嫌他种的禾苗长得慢,就到地里把禾苗一株株地拔高了一点.回家后他对家人说:“今天可真把我累坏了!但我总算让禾苗一下子长高了."儿子到地里去一看,禾苗都已经死光了.
现在有些家长急于让孩子成功,往往步那个农夫的后尘,搞得孩子苦不堪言,却不见孩子学业长进.这样的家长是否该对这个问题有所醒悟,让孩子自然成长呢?
Once upon a time a farmer who felt unhappy with the slow growth of the seedlings,
so he went to the field and pulled them up one by one.
Returning home he told his family, “ I am exhausted today!
However, I finally made those seedlings grow taller all at once.
" His son hurried to the field only to find that the seedlings were all dead.
Nowadays, some parents are so eager for their children’s success
that they would follow in the footsteps of the farmer.
As a result their children suffer a lot and meanwhile
there is no improvement in their study.
Should such parents realize their problem
and give their children space for natural growth?
亡羊补牢
从前有个人养了一群羊,一天早上他准备出去放羊,发现少了 一只.
他仔细一看,看到羊栏(sheepfold)上有个窟窿.显然 夜间有狼钻进羊圏叼走了羊.
邻居劝他修羊栏,可是他不听.第二天他发现狼又通过窟曉叼走一只羊.
他想起邻居的话,就 赶快堵上窟窿,把羊栏补好.此后,他的羊再也没有被狼叼走.故事告诉我们:出了问题及时补救,可以防止蒙受更大损失.
Once upon a time, a man kept a flock of sheep.
One morning he was about to herd them when he noticed one of them was gone.
Observing carefully, he saw a hole in the sheepfold.
Obviously, a wolf must have got in during the night and taken the sheep away.
His neighbor advised him to fix the sheepfold, but he didn’t listen.
The next day he found another sheep was carried away through the hole by the wolf.
Remembering his neighbor's words,
he hurried to repair the sheepfold by plugging the hole.
Since then, no sheep was taken away by wolves.
The story tells us: if we solve the problem in time,
we can prevent ourselves from suffering bigger loss.
守株待兔
从前,有个农夫正在地里耕作,突然看见一只免子飞奔而过,撞在一棵大树上死了.
农夫毫不费力就吃到了兔肉,心里非常高兴.
他想,“如果总是这样该多好啊!’于是,不再耕作,每天守候在那棵树旁,等待着能再捡到撞死在树上的免子.
他等呀等,等了一天又一天,田地也荒芜了,却再也没有等到第二只免子.人们因而都嘲笑他把偶然当成必然.
Once upon a time,
a farmer was working in the field when he suddenly saw a rabbit running past,
hitting a large tree and died.
He felt extremely happy because he could eat its meat easily.
He thought, "What a wonderful thing to have this all the time!
" From then on, he stopped working and waited beside the tree every day,
hoping for another rabbit to be picked up like this. He waited and waited,
day after day, the field was deserted, but he never got a second rabbit.
Therefore, people laughed at him for taking the accidental for the inevitable.
