Paper recycling demonstrated more significant progress: starting at 13% in 1992,
it climbed steadily to 38% by 2002. However, the most notable growth occur
red in glass recycling. Initially matching paper at 13%, glass surged to 48% by the end of
the period, surpassing all other categories. Notably, between 1998 and 2002, glass recycl
ing accelerated dramatically, increasing by 20 percentage points.While all waste types saw
improved recycling rates, the disparity between materials remained substantial.
Glass dominated the recycling efforts,
whereas plastic lagged far behind despite the decade-long efforts.
